I have this weird view that the world is less forgiving than in past times (say the 1990s).
- The memory of mistakes don't decay as fast.
- Higher global moral awareness comes with a lower threshold for error as people expect more.
- The court of public opinion is decentralized and chaotic. The self is constantly projected.
- Incentives for forgiveness are less.
- Competition is higher as we have reached information equality.
- Social forgiveness mechanisms are no longer relationship-based, but rather now algorithmic-based, and in totality lead to causation of cancel culture/increased polarization.
